UEFA, the governing body of European football, announced on Tuesday that it has abandoned plans to re-admit Russian under-17 teams to the youth European Championship next year.
“No technical solution to allow Russian teams to play could be found,” UEFA said.
UEFA returned Russian young teams to its competitions in September, after suspending the country’s senior sides due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
UEFA stated that youth athletes should not bear the consequences of adults’ acts.
This decision infuriated Kyiv, which responded by declaring a boycott of all UEFA events including Russian teams.
Kyiv thanked UEFA on Tuesday for canceling the plans.
