Tyler Perry, an accomplished film producer and director, has accomplished another historic first three years after becoming a billionaire. The actor, director, writer, and studio tycoon is now the first Black performer to appear on Forbes’ list of the 10 highest-paid entertainers for the second year in a row.
He earned $175 million in 2022, according to Forbes, from his movies, BET TV series, and his sizable Atlanta production backlot. On Forbes’ list of the highest-paid entertainers, he is ranked third.
According to the top publication, the top 10 earners this year brought in $1.35 billion, which is roughly half as much as the top 10, which included Jay-Z, “Ye” West, and Bruce Springsteen, from the previous year. The only two individuals from last year’s list to reappear this year were Tyler Perry and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
The director opened his $250 million film studio in Atlanta in 2019 with a star-studded celebration.
On territory that was once a Confederate army base where white people fought to keep black people in slavery in Atlanta, the facility was constructed. In order to build the studio, which has 12 fully equipped sound stages for film projects, Perry purchased the 330-acre plot of land near Fort McPherson in 2015. A recreation of the White House, a cafe, a park for mobile homes, and a jail yard are among the further constructions.
He just spent $8.4 million on an additional 37 acres of property to develop his film studio.
According to sources, the billionaire will probably use the property to expand the production campus’s dining, shopping, and entertainment options. He revealed his intention to construct a 3,000-seat theater with the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 2020. It would be comparable to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.
Playwright, actor, and director Perry began his career, although it wasn’t always simple for him. He had to spend the night in his car during one of the lowest times of his life. Yet he persisted in pursuing his goal of being a premier entertainer, and today, many years later, he is the owner of a multifunctional studio—an amazing accomplishment deserving of acclaim.
Perry has been successful in producing plays and movies that appeal to largely black audiences. His “Madea” series and persona rank among the most commercially successful works of art in American history.
The fact that he was formally acknowledged as a billionaire by Forbes in 2020 with an estimated net worth of $1 billion and a fortune that included $300 million in cash and investments, $320 million from his body of work (movies, television shows, plays, etc.), $280 million for his 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, $60 million for his equity stake in BET+, and $40 million in homes and toys was therefore not shocking.
