Olympic champion Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui of Tunisia returned home on Monday after two strong wins at the World Swimming Championships in Japan.
On his arrival at Tunis-Carthage airport, the 20-year-old Tunisian was greeted by family members, supporters, and government authorities.
On Monday, Kamel Deguiche, Minister of Youth and Sport, Mehrez Boussayene, President of the National Olympic Committee, and Hedi Belhassan, President of the Tunisian Swimming Federation were among those present.
Hafnaoui won two gold medals in Fukuoka, Japan, in the 800m freestyle final and the 1,500m freestyle final, where he set the world record.
Hafnaoui will be the first Tunisian Olympic winner since Oussama Mellouli in 2008 and 2012. Hafanoui, who is only 18 years old, won gold in the 400m freestyle competition at Tokyo 2020.
After taking a break to focus on university studies in the United States, Hafnaoui returned.
