Swiatek Handed Qatar Semi-Final Walkover As Pliskova Withdraws

Iga Swiatek, the world number one, went to the Qatar Open final on Friday without hitting a ball when her semi-final opponent Karolina Pliskova withdrew due to injury.

Pliskova won the Cluj tournament in Romania last weekend, but she is out with a lower back issue, according to the WTA.

Swiatek will face either third-seeded Elena Rybakina or unseeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Pole is seeking for his third consecutive title in Doha.

Pliskova had won her previous nine matches, but her first three in Qatar all went to the third set, and she needed two tie breaks to defeat Naomi Osaka in two sets in the quarterfinals.
