Simone Biles, a gymnast and Olympic champion, revealed in a recent interview on Call Her Daddy With Alex Cooper that she “broke down” after her husband Jonathan Owens faced outrage for claiming he was uninformed of his wife’s sporting achievements in a 2023 viral interview.
During an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, the NFL player stated that Biles piqued his curiosity despite his initial disinterest in gymnastics. The couple met through the celebrity dating app Raya.
Ryan Clark, the podcast host, asked the Chicago Bears’ safety if he felt he was the catch in their relationship. He said, “I always say that the men are the catch.”
The 28-year-old’s statements about his wife sparked social media fury, with some misinterpreting them as condescending.
“I thought everything was fine until I went on Twitter and everyone was like, ‘Divorce this man.'” “He’s mean!” Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, spoke on “Call Her Daddy,” according to Entertainment Tonight. “I am like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He compliments the ground I tread on. “I’ve never encountered a man like him.
Biles, 27, stated that her husband never indicated she wasn’t a catch. “He claimed he was a catch. “Because he is,” the Olympian explained.
Biles initially found the divorce jokes amusing, but they eventually affected her negatively. “I thought it was hilarious what all these people were saying, ‘Divorce him, divorce him’.” “I thought it was funny at first, but then it hurt my feelings,” she explained.
“One night I broke down and said, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?'” You do not know him. You have no idea who he is, but if you’ve met him, you know he’s the loveliest guy who will go out of his way to help anyone. It definitely hurt that they were talking about my husband in that way. For me, it’s like, “Talk about me all you want, but never come for my family.”
Biles praised her husband’s sense of humor and ability to do “everything” when they first met on Raya.
“He was capable of doing anything, which made me laugh. So I couldn’t wait to meet him and say, ‘You’re not funny. “You’re not a good cook,” she remarked. “I just thought that was funny, and I thought that was cute that he thought he was good at everything.”
During the conversation, Biles expressed her desire to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside Owens. “I’m happy for him to see the Olympics since football isn’t in the Olympics, and he always thinks it’s the most difficult sport; it’s universal. So, why is it not in the Olympics?” she jokingly said.
