Sierra Frazier was named to the Jim Castaeda Postgraduate scholarship by the C-USA office on Thursday.
The Jim Castaeda Postgraduate Scholarship is in its 15th year and is named after Dr. Jim Castaeda, a coach, educator, and faculty member at Rice from 1961 through the 2000s. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was on the baseball and golf coaching staffs, and in 2001, he was awarded a golf scholarship bearing his name. His career came to an end in 2008 with his death, after 46 years of service.
Conference USA awards a $4,000 scholarship to graduates chosen by the league’s Faculty Athletics Representatives and authorized by the Conference USA Board of Directors.
The Corona, California native concluded the season with a slew of awards and honors, including Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors. She now has a postgraduate scholarship to her name, one of 11 athletes to receive the accolade.
Over her five years at UAB, Frazier collected five postseason awards and numerous academic honors, including an Easton NFCA All-Academic Scholar Athlete and multiple Dean’s List and President’s List nods over her career. She finished her final year with a 3.80 GPA.
