Paris Saint-Germain are allegedly reconsidering extending Lionel Messi’s contract through the conclusion of the season.
The Argentina World Cup winner, whose contract in Paris is slated to end this summer, has piqued the interest of several clubs.
Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, Inter Miami of Major League Soccer, and his previous club Barcelona are all rumored to be interested in signing the 35-year-old great.
Messi’s contract has a clause that allows him to extend his current contract for an additional year if both parties agree.
At the World Cup, PSG and Messi established an agreement in principle to trigger this option. But, the Ligue 1 giants are thought to have abandoned the plan.
Christophe Galtier’s side were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich last week, and they were also defeated 2 – 0 by Stade Rennais on Sunday.
PSG fans are divided over whether Messi should return to the Parc de Princes next season, and L’Equipe reports that this is a big role in the board’s choice.
The French club is also thought to be considering Messi’s age and salary, knowing that the long-term goal is to develop completely on cornerstone prodigy Kylian Mbappe.
