Officer Robin Conner was nabbed for allegedly stealing from Dick’s Sporting Goods while wearing her uniform.
According to the Daily Mail, a 33-year-old Columbus Police Officer was on duty when she reportedly stole a pair of $140 tennis shoes from the business last Wednesday.
Officers responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Columbus when a staff member discovered Conner stealing shoes and kept her from leaving the store.
Chief Daughtry, one of the police who responded to the crime, told The Columbus Dispatch, “We’re putting her in jail.” It’s embarrassing for the department, but we’ll handle her as we would anyone else.”
Conner was charged with minor shoplifting after removing products worth less than $1,000. She was arrested and put into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after being transported to the jail in the police vehicle she was driving at the time of the incident.
The ex-cop was given $862 surety bond and placed on administrative leave while the inquiry was ongoing.
According to WTVA, the Columbus City Council voted to terminate her the next day.
