Man United To Come Up Against Fenerbahce In Europa League

Manchester United will play one of their eight league games in the new-look Europa League, which was drawn in Monaco on Friday, against Turkish giants Fenerbahce, who are currently coached by Jose Mourinho.

In 2017, Mourinho led Manchester United to the Europa League title. He recently became coach of Fenerbahce, who were eliminated from the Champions League in the third qualifying round.

United will also play at home against 2022 Europa League runners-up Rangers and travel to Portugal to face Porto, another of Mourinho’s former clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur, the other English team in the championship, will also face Rangers, albeit away from home.

Ange Postecoglou’s team will also play at home against Roma and travel to Istanbul to face Turkish champions Galatasaray.

The Europa League format has altered for this season, mirroring the new Champions League.

The competition presently has 36 clubs, all of which are put in the same league but divided into four seed pots.

Each player plays eight games against two clubs from each pot, one at home and one away.

The top eight clubs at the completion of the league phase, which runs until the end of January, will proceed to the round of 16, while the teams ranking ninth to 24th will compete in a play-off round to determine the remaining last-16 slots.

The bottom 12 clubs in the league phase will be eliminated, with no clubs sliding down into the Conference League before the knockouts, and no teams dropping out of the Champions League as has previously occurred.
