Man City’s Alvarez Set To Join Atletico in 95 Million Euro Deal — Reports

Julian Alvarez is ready to leave Manchester City for Atletico Madrid, according to widespread reports on Tuesday, with the English champions set to benefit handsomely from the Argentine in a deal worth up to 95 million euros (£81 million, $104 million).

The 24-year-old joined City for £14 million from River Plate in January 2022 and has since had a stratospheric ascent, guiding Argentina to World Cup and Copa America glory, as well as winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League at club level.

After returning to River on loan for six months, Alvarez scored 36 goals in two seasons at City, helping Pep Guardiola’s side become the first team in history to win four straight English Premier League titles.

However, he was forced to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland for the most of his tenure in Manchester.

City will be compensated with a club record sale, but they may be compelled to enter the market in the remaining three weeks of the transfer window to find a replacement for the Norwegian striker.

The departure of Spain captain Alvaro Morata to AC Milan means that Alvarez will not have any problems as the main man in the Spanish city, where he will have the opportunity to play under compatriot Diego Simeone.

After finishing fourth in La Liga last season, Atletico is preparing to fight Real Madrid and Barcelona for the top spot.

They’ve already signed Euro 2024 winner Robin Le Normand and Norwegian forward Alexander Sorloth.

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is also close to signing with the England international, having traveled out to Madrid to seal a £33 million transfer.
