Italy To Battle Spain In Euro 2024 Group Stage

In Saturday’s Euro 2024 draw, reigning champions Italy were put in the same group as Spain, while France will face the Netherlands.

The tournament will begin on June 14 in Munich, with England facing Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia, and hosts Germany facing Scotland.

Italy, which defeated England on penalties in the 2021 European Championship final at Wembley, and Spain will also meet Croatia and Albania in Group B.

Spain, who defeated Italy in the Euro 2012 final, will face 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia in their opening encounter on June 15 in Berlin.

The other heavyweight clash of the opening phase will be between France, the 2022 World Cup runners-up, and the Netherlands.

In qualification, they were in the same group, with France winning both games. The two countries are in Group D, together with Austria and the winner of a play-off between Poland, Wales, Finland, and Estonia.

England, on the other hand, will have few complaints about their Group C opponents, despite the fact that a Denmark squad ranked 19th in the world was arguably the team to avoid from the second pot of seeds.

Gareth Southgate’s team, considered the tournament favorites along with France, will face Serbia in their first encounter on June 16 in Gelsenkirchen.

Scotland, who memorably fell to Brazil in the tournament’s first encounter in 1998, will have the honor of playing in the tournament’s curtain-raiser when they face Germany in Group A.

Hungary and Switzerland round up the area, which has the potential to be one of the most evenly balanced.

Euro 2016 champions Portugal was placed in Group F alongside Turkey, the Czech Republic, and the winner of a play-off between Greece, Georgia, Luxembourg, and Kazakhstan.

Belgium is in Group E with Slovakia, Romania, and the winner of the alternative play-off path, which will be either Israel, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Ukraine.

The month-long Euro will conclude with the final in Berlin on July 14.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the last 16, along with the four best third-placed sides.
