Iran warns Israel of escalation if attacks on Palestine don’t stop

Iran has threatened Israel with escalation if it does not stop its assault against Palestinians.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, pledged on Sunday to “demolish Hamas” as his troops prepared to deploy into Gaza in search of Islamist terrorists whose deadly rampage across Israeli border communities stunned the world.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran stated on Tuesday that Tehran was not engaged in the militant Hamas group’s attack on Israel, but he praised Israel’s “irreparable” military and intelligence setback.

Israel has long accused Iran’s rulers of supporting terrorism by giving weapons to Hamas. Tehran claims to be providing spiritual and financial assistance to the group that controls the Gaza Strip.

According to the semi-official Fars news agency, Iran’s foreign minister stated on Sunday, October 15, that other parties in the region are ready to respond if Israel’s ‘aggression’ continues.

“If the Zionist aggressions do not stop, the hands of all parties in the region are on the trigger,” Hossein Amirabdollahian was quoted as saying.

Amiabdollahian, who last week accused Israel of seeking “genocide” by enforcing a siege against the Gaza Strip, said an attack on Gaza would “open new fronts of resistance” in the Middle East.

“The responsibility for the possible opening of new fronts of resistance in the region and any escalation of today’s war directly falls on the United States and the Zionist regime (Israel),” Amirabdollahian said.

Amirabdollahian met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar on Saturday, where they reviewed the group’s fatal strike in Israel “and agreed to continue cooperation” to achieve the group’s aims, according to a statement issued by the Iran-backed Hamas.

Earlier, in a phone discussion with his colleague Emmanuel Macron, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi urged France to assist “prevent oppression” of Palestinians.

Since the 1979 revolution, the Islamic Republic has supported the Palestinian cause.
