Snoop Dogg has praised Charlie Wilson’s help in saving his marriage to wife Shante Broadus. During Charlie Wilson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Snoop, 52, gave a poignant speech, thanking Wilson for urging him not to end their relationship.
“This man right here means the world to me, not just musically but personally, especially when it comes to me and my wife because there were certain phases in my life where I felt like, ‘I should be by myself, I should do this alone,'” he added.
He added the 71-year-old music icon was the only one brave enough to caution him “Don’t blow a good thing.” Get back home. You have the finest woman in the world. “You have a family.”
The “Gin and Juice” rapper also praised Charlie Wilson’s wife, Mahin Wilson. During their early days together, when Snoop was on Death Row Records and Charlie Wilson was in rehab, Snoop acknowledged Mahin’s role as a counselor for Charlie Wilson.
He recalled an instance in the studio where Mahin insisted that no one may smoke while Charlie Wilson was present. Snoop and others were initially hesitant and ignored her directive. However, Mahin later drew Snoop away for a private talk.
“She pulled me to the side, and she talked to me like my mother — and I was always taught by my mother to respect women and respect your elders,” Snoop added. “She put so much respect on me that we didn’t smoke in the studio around Charlie Wilson when we were working.”
Snoop and Charlie Wilson began working together in 1996 with “The Doggfather” album, which included the hit single “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head.” Their working friendship lasted over the years.
Snoop credits Charlie Wilson with teaching him charisma, commercial acumen, and respect for family values.
“That’s the treasure for me. Because when we enter this sector, we don’t really have individuals we can rely on or turn to. “We get so far in this industry that you lose contact,” admitted Snoop.
“So, to have somebody like you to stay in my life and to be there for me and my family means the world to me, Charlie.”
Snoop married Shante Taylor, his high school lover, on June 14, 1997. The couple has had hardships throughout their 26-year marriage, including a break after Snoop fathered at least one child outside the marriage.
They repeated their vows in an April 2008 ceremony held at Charlie Wilson’s ranch near Los Angeles. They have three children: daughter Cori (24) and sons Cordé (29 and Cordell 26). Snoop also has a son named Julian from an adulterous relationship.
