During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg discussed Michael Jackson’s reaction to blowing smoke at him during an encounter. According to Vibe, the Drop It Like It’s Hot rapper described an event where Cohen questioned if he and the King of Pop had ever met before his death.
Snoop responded affirmatively, recalling a performance for French fashion designer Christian Audigier. “Me and Mike were family,” the 52-year-old explained.
“His and my families love each other. We have a record that was never released together. We never had problems…The only concern Mike and I had was where we were. What was that thing? Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier. He had an event in Vegas where they had all the outfits and everything, so he hired entertainers.”
Snoop explained that he was smoking dope in his dressing room when he was notified that Billy Jean was around, despite his first doubts.
“He had Michael Jackson perform, Snoop Dogg perform, but where he messed up, he put Michael Jackson’s dressing room right next to Snoop Dogg, so Snoop Dogg is there doing this,” Snoop stated, referring to the marijuana he was smoking.
“Mmm-hmm, and they say, ‘You know, Michael Jackson’s dressing room is next door.'” I said, ‘No, it ain’t.’ They say, ‘Yeah, [exactly] there,’ and I go, ‘Hold on.’ “Open the door. Snoop recalls meeting the iconic musician when he exhaled smoke after answering the door.
“Yeah. He’s right there, looking at me. He said, ‘Snoop, don’t do that,'” he copied Jackson’s tone.
In the conversation, Snoop also revealed more about the unreleased song he collaborated on with Jackson. The rapper informed Cohen that he was one of numerous musicians featured on the single. He also mentioned that it was done for charity.
“I have to find out.” It’s a record that he made for the entire planet. “It was a peaceful record with a lot of artists on it,” he added.
“He called me one night, and it was crazy because the way his voice came through the phone was, ‘Snoop, it’s Mike.'” I have a song I want you to listen to. I’m like, “Man, whatever you want, Mike.” It’s not a problem. Talk to me. Then, after we finished the song, he stated, “My mother always said you resembled someone in my family.” I think we are linked.”
