Heir to Asia’s Richest Billionaire Grapples with Weight Management

Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Asia’s richest billionaire Mukesh Ambani, was once scrutinised for his 208 kg weight, which was briefly overshadowed by his lavish three-day pre-wedding.

According to the Hindustan Times, Anant Ambani’s early weight gain as a result of chronic asthma medication caused teasing. As an adult, his weight eclipsed his role in the Ambani family.

In 2014, Anant embarked on a deliberate weight loss program, shedding 100 kg over 18 months to reach 108 kg.

Anant Ambani had lost an additional 88 kg by 2016, thanks to coach Vinod Channa’s supervision.

Channa’s diet consisted of 1,200-1,500 calories, with a concentration on low sugar, fat, and carbs but high fiber, as well as 5-6 hours of daily exercise that included yoga, weight training, and a 21-kilometer walk.

Nita Ambani had a big impact on Anant’s weight loss journey by openly discussing his obesity and embracing his new diet and exercise program, which resulted in her own weight loss of over 40 kg.

“Whenever he worked out, I did too. If he went for a walk, I’d tag along. As his mother, I lost weight. He was my biggest drive and still is, as we continue to fight obesity,” Nita added.

Photos from 2020 showed Anant Ambani regaining weight as a result of COVID-19 interruptions and asthma medication control issues. Recent photographs from a March wedding reignited weight debates.

Muffazal Lakdawala, founder of the Digestive Health Institute in Mumbai, believes cultural expectations and the pre-wedding period may have contributed to this setback.

Despite attempts to regain his successful weight loss, Anant’s body has failed to adapt.

According to Forbes, Mukesh Ambani is Asia’s and the world’s ninth richest person, with a net worth of US$117 billion as of March 4, 2024.

Anant Ambani, 28, is the youngest child of Mukesh Ambani, who runs the company Reliance Industries, which has annual revenues of US$110 billion.

His fiancée, Radhika Merchant, 29, is the daughter of Shri Viren Merchant, the CEO of India’s leading healthcare company, Encore Healthcare.

The pair, who have known each other since childhood, both attended school in the United States.

The couple’s pre-wedding celebrations, held from March 1–3, featured a variety of themes, events, and dress standards, including a visit to a “animal rescue center” in Jamnagar. This center, which houses a variety of exotic animals, is a particular endeavor spearheaded by Anant.
