According to police, a Brevard County man confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend because she did not return his calls or text messages. Carlos Lemont Jones II, 23, allegedly committed the offense and turned himself in to the Palm Bay Police Department.
According to a police press release, Jones was charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the death of Sha’Dayla Johnson. He was also charged with committing a felony while using a firearm.
According to an affidavit obtained by Oxygen True Crime, he confessed to murdering Johnson on Tuesday. He told police he was not sorry and that “if he had to do it all over again, he would have killed [Johnson] and her father.”
Jones allegedly told police that he awoke angry on the day of the murder because his ex-girlfriend was not returning his calls or texts. He then decided, according to WFLA, that he was going to shoot and kill Johnson.
According to reports, Jones arrived at Johnson’s house around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, confronted her, and exchanged words with her before pointing his handgun at her and shooting her 15 times in the back as she walked away.
Police spoke with Johnson’s father, Torrance Clark, who said he heard gunshots and saw Jones staring at the house, according to Fox29. He also stated that he discovered his daughter face down on the carport floor. According to Clark, Jones and his daughter split up two weeks ago after an argument. He also stated that Jones has been calling and harassing his daughter in an attempt to rekindle their relationship, but to no avail.
Jones allegedly told police that he purchased the gun for self-defense. According to officials, after the incident, he changed his clothes and threw the gun down a storm drain in Rockledge.
Meanwhile, Jones is currently being held at Brevard County Jail without bond after his first court appearance on Wednesday. Court records said he will be back in court on January 19, 2023.
