A Florida man has been arrested and charged with using his corporate credit card to purchase $31,000 in scratch-off lottery tickets. Warren Alexander Johnson, a truck driver for All Phase Paving, allegedly committed the crime, as reported by Fox News.
The company’s owner reported fraudulent withdrawals from its credit card since September 2023. The owner also told authorities that Johnson and two other individuals only had credit cards tied to the company’s bank account. The owner said that the credit cards were to be used for work-related spending.
The cards had distinct numbers, creating a paper trail for each employee who used them. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the company’s owner spotted Johnson using the card he was provided to make $31,693 in purchases at numerous convenience outlets.
According to Fox News, Johnson acknowledged to using the credit card to purchase lottery tickets when confronted with the charges. According to authorities, a manager at one of the convenience outlets verified that Johnson regularly arrived in a work truck, and that the suspect purchased scratch-off tickets using credit card.
Johnson was accused with a plan to defraud between $20,000 and $50,000.
