Black Chamber of Arizona Names Dr. Velma Trayham as New CEO and President

The Black Chamber of Arizona has appointed Dr. Velma Trayham as its new CEO and President. Dr. Trayham will work with the board of directors to carry out the Chamber’s objective of empowering and growing entrepreneurs.

“I am deeply honored to take on the role of CEO for the Arizona Black Chamber of Commerce at this watershed moment in our history.” Building on the solid basis built by my predecessor, Robin Reed, I am committed to not only continuing his legacy but also broadening our vision of economic empowerment, inclusivity, and resilience. As we negotiate the challenges of today’s economic landscape, I will prioritize empowering our members, developing public-private collaboration, and creating resilient routes for Black entrepreneurs and enterprises in Arizona,” stated Dr. Trayham. “Together, we will innovate, advocate, and collaborate to build a vibrant environment that values variety and promotes prosperity for all. Our journey ahead is full of opportunities, and I am committed to using our community’s unique power and energy to achieve unparalleled success.”

Dr. Velma Trayham, an acclaimed author, businesswoman, motivational speaker, and business strategist, was named one of the top 30 Enterprising Women by the Phoenix Business Journal in 2024. She also received a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from the White House. Her diversified background includes marketing and economic development ecosystem building, spanning industries such as banking, manufacturing, finance, real estate, and faith-based organizations.

Trayham’s hard work and perseverance propelled her from poverty to a seat at the C-Suite table that is renowned across the world. Her influence spans across multiple industries, including Fortune 500 businesses, government institutions, economic development agencies, small company owners, and minority entrepreneurs.

A proponent of entrepreneurship as an effective instrument for reducing poverty, particularly in marginalized communities. Her programs have effectively helped over 8,000 small minority-owned firms start, scale, and thrive, accelerating economic growth and generating new opportunities.

Dr. Trayham is at the forefront of promoting inclusive business ecosystems that benefit communities and assure long-term prosperity. Her passion is to empower individuals and bring about dramatic change in communities. Dr. Trayham’s leadership and activism have helped to create circumstances in which businesses and communities may thrive together.

The Black Chamber of Arizona’s (BCAZ) objective is to promote the economic development of business owners and the communities they serve. BCAZ serves as the foundation for educational training, resource programs, and economic development opportunities, with a focus on “business in action.”
