Michael Mangondoza, also known as “Money Mike,” has made a name for himself as an astute businessman and, more importantly, philanthropist at the age of 25. The 25-year-old was born in a ghetto in Zimbabwe’s Chitungwiza.

He had a difficult childhood, he told The Herald. When he was nine years old, his mother, sister, and he were stranded on the streets of Harare with no food or shelter.

“My mother died when I was 12, my father was absent and I was everyone’s child and soon to be the golden goose,” Money Mike said. “I was raised by my grandmother who was strict about church values and ethos which has made me the man I am.”

Despite his difficult childhood, he did not forego his schooling. He went to six primary schools before attending Churchill Boys, Conway College, where he was the head boy. Following that, he completed an ACCA internship with Financial Focus Group in Harare.

After finishing his ACCA, he worked in marketing, property, sales, and branding. He began his career with Platinum Fuels, where he gained his first exposure to the petroleum industry. He worked as a sales agent and was inspired to do more in the fuel industry after reflecting on his first sale.

Money Mike, although being raised in the ghetto, was a huge dreamer. “When I was small, I was attracted by planes that would pass over our house, therefore I wanted to be a pilot,” he told The Herald. “I have a younger sister who has huge goals as well.”

Money Mike is currently the CEO of two petroleum firms, BetterBrands Petroleum and Rocket Energy. Money Mike, on the other hand, wishes to be recognized for his charitable contributions. He contributes to Salem’s Children’s Home. Financing a children’s home, he said, was his way of giving back to society and encouraging children from less fortunate families to aspire to be like him in the future.

Money Mike said his entrepreneurial journey has been inspired by Grant Cardone (American-based billionaire sales entrepreneur) whose principles have guided him through his sales learning journey.

“Then there is Vusi Thembekwayo. I am part of the Vusi Thembekwayo exclusive Club 100,” he added.
