According to a study conducted by a Tokyo-based nonprofit group, Shizuoka Prefecture was the most popular relocation destination in 2022 for the third year in a row.
Furusato Kaiki Shien Center, which gives assistance and information to persons relocating to rural Japan, stated that the poll was based on questionnaires given by those who sought advise at its counters.
Counselors from 44 prefectures and one government ordinance-designated city, including Shizuoka Prefecture and Shizuoka City, are stationed in the NPO’s Tokyo office.
Shizuoka Prefecture was praised for its close proximity to Tokyo, among other reasons.
“In addition to favorable conditions for climate, transportation and employment, the fact that Shizuoka city is the only government ordinance-designated city that has established a dedicated consultation service is a factor that gained support,” said Hiroshi Takahashi, the head of the center.
Shizuoka Prefecture was top in every age category, from those in their twenties to those in their seventies.
Nagano Prefecture, which frequently rates high as a popular migration destination, took second position.
It was followed by the prefectures of Tochigi, Yamanashi, and Fukuoka.
