The three guys accused of fatally shooting XXXTentacion in 2018 were convicted of murder.
On June 18, 2018, Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, aka XXXTentacion, was visiting a South Florida motorcycle dealership when he was robbed, according to prosecutors. He was shot while driving, and the robbers fled with $50,000 in cash and a Louis Vuitton bag.
Michael Boatwright, 27, Dedrick Williams, 26, and Trayvon Newsome, 24, were all convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery.
Jurors deliberated for slightly more than seven days before delivering their findings on Monday, March 20, bringing a one-month trial to a close. Each convicted criminal will face a mandatory life sentence.
A 4th man named Robert Allen was also arrested in connection to the killing but he pled guilty last year to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against the other 3 suspects, adding he was hesitant about the robbery and even asked the others to ditch the idea in the moment.
He could still face a lifetime prison sentence for his alleged role in the killing.
A surveillance camera caught the tragic armed robbery. The violent footage was shown to jurors in the criminal trial of Boatwright, Williams, and Newsome in February. Footage shows an SUV approaching Onfroy’s automobile in the parking lot of the motorcycle shop before stopping perpendicular to the BMW, blocking it from entering onto the street.
Two masked individuals can be seen exiting the Vehicle and approaching Onfroy’s car’s driver’s side window. A fight breaks out, and one of the attackers fires a gun through the glass. According to testimony given during the trial, both suspects then fled with $50,000 in cash, which Onfroy was holding inside a Louis Vuitton satchel when the shooting occurred. Prosecutors said he intended to use the money to buy a motorcycle from the shop.
According to the prosecution, the perpetrators shown in the surveillance tape were Boatwright and Newsome, and the fatal gunfire occurred after an apparent altercation over money. Authorities allege that Boatwright was the shooter, and that Newsome pointed a loaded gun at persons inside the BMW. According to court testimony, Williams was driving the getaway car and stayed inside the SUV during the shooting.
The prosecution based its case on the allegation that the violent robbery that led to Onfroy’s death was meticulously planned. Prosecutors told the Broward County jury that one day before the Deerfield Beach shooting, on June 17, the three suspects on trial concocted a plan that comprised hiring a car and driving around the region committing numerous crimes. They allegedly saw Onfroy exiting the parking lot of the motorcycle shop, where they meant to buy a face mask, and decided to target him, according to prosecutors.
