Prince William

Prince William is the second in line to the British throne and the elder son of Princess Diana and King Charles III. He was deeply affected by his parents’ divorce in 1996 and his mother’s tragic death in 1997, and he expressed dissatisfaction with the increasing attention he received as he grew older. William served in the Royal Air Force and donates to a variety of charities.

He made international headlines on April 29, 2011, when he married his college sweetheart, Kate Middleton, at Westminster Abbey. Prince George, the couple’s son and second in line to the throne, was born on July 22, 2013. Princess Charlotte, their second child, was born on May 2, 2015, and Prince Louis, their third child, was born on April 23, 2018.

Wife and Children

Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011. The couple has three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Early Life & Education

On June 21, 1982, in London, England, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor was born, the elder son of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Charles, Prince of Wales. “His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales” is his official title.

William attended Mrs. Mynor’s Nursery School in West London from 1985 to 1987, Wetherby School in Kensington, London from 1987 to 1990, and Ludgrove School in Wokingham from 1990 to 1993. (1990-95). Prince William (nicknamed “Wills”) entered Eton College, one of England’s most prestigious secondary schools, in 1995, at the urging of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh. He was a serious student with excellent grades who excelled in sports, particularly swimming, at Eton. He enjoys outdoor sports such as riding, skiing, shooting, and fishing with his father and brother.

Affected by his parents’ divorce in 1996 and his mother’s tragic death in 1997, the tall and handsome young William publicly expressed his dislike for the press, as well as his discomfort with the growing attention he received from adoring adolescent girls. He appeared to be a well-mannered, responsible, and mature young man with a strong sense of duty and loyalty to the royal family, fully aware of his role as England’s future king.

Military Service and Philanthropy

William took a break from his studies after graduating from Eton to travel to South America and Africa. He then attended St Andrew’s University in Scotland, where he earned a degree in geography in 2005. William joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a military cadet, following in the footsteps of his younger brother, Prince Harry, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Household Cavalry in December 2006. He was made a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in 2008. He graduated from the Royal Air Force’s search-and-rescue pilot course two years later.

In addition to his military career, William is a patron of several charities, including Centrepoint, an organization for homeless youth, and the Tusk Trust, which is dedicated to the preservation of African wildlife. In 2007, William and his brother Harry hosted a special concert to honor their late mother and raise funds for charities supported by Princess Diana as well as charities supported by the princes.

Prince William announced in September 2013 that he would be leaving the military to focus on his royal duties and charitable work. Furthermore, according to BBC News, Prince William intended to devote much of his time and energy to wildlife conservation. “The threats to our natural heritage are numerous,” he said, “but I believe that this collaboration of conservation’s best minds will provide the impetus for a renewed commitment and action to protect endangered species and habitats for future generations.”

While continuing to perform royal duties, Prince William announced in 2014 that he would be working as a pilot for Bond Air Services, an air ambulance company. In 2015, he began training for the position. According to reports, Prince William will be the first British royal heir to work in the private sector, and his salary will be donated to charity.

Kate Middleton

As the future King of England, William’s personal life has received a great deal of media attention. He was romantically linked to Kate Middleton after the couple met at St. Andrew’s University, with rumors of an engagement circulating for months. The couple announced their divorce in April 2007, much to the surprise of royal watchers, before Middleton reappeared at several public and official events and accompanied Prince William on vacation. The speculation about the two getting married grew stronger.

On November 16, 2010, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement. During a vacation in Kenya in October, Prince William proposed with his mother’s engagement ring. The couple would also live in North Wales, where Prince William was stationed with the Royal Air Force. Middleton is not of royal or aristocratic descent, which deviates from longstanding royal tradition.

With his marriage at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, the Queen officially bestowed upon her grandson the titles William, Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus. Later, he was appointed Lord High Commissioner to the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly.

Royal Births

At the start of July 2013, international media outlets camped out in front of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, anticipating the arrival of Middleton and Prince William’s firstborn. Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William and later Prince Harry at St. Mary’s Hospital.

The palace announced on July 22, 2013, that Middleton had given birth to a baby boy weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces at 4:24 p.m. local time. The baby’s name was revealed two days later: George Alexander Louis, who will be known as “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.”

On May 2, 2015, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces, was born at St Mary’s Hospital at 8:34 a.m. local time. The infant is the Queen’s fifth great-grandchild and the third in line to the throne, following her brother Prince George.

Kensington Palace announced in September 2017 that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their third child. On April 23, 2018, Middleton gave birth to Prince Louis Arthur Charles. The new addition to their family weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces.

The Royal Foundation

The charitable organization, which was founded in 2009 as The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, was renamed The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2019.

The foundation has focused on issues such as mental health through its Heads Together initiative, as well as programs to assist children and veterans transitioning to civilian life.

In late 2019, Prince William announced plans to award the Earthshot Prize to five recipients who present the best solutions to the planet’s pressing environmental problems every year for the next decade.

The Duke and Duchess announced in April 2020 that they would use the foundation to assist frontline responders and families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
