Vinicius Extends Real Madrid Deal Until 2027

Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior has signed a new contract with Real Madrid that runs until 2027, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday.

“Real Madrid and Vini Jr. have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract, linking him to the club until 30 June 2027,” the club said in a statement.

Vinicius, 23, joined Madrid from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2018 and has developed into one of La Liga’s top performers, scoring the game-winning goal against Liverpool in last year’s Champions League final.

His current deal was set to expire at the end of the season. Although local media claimed that an extension had been agreed upon last year, it was only made public on Tuesday.

The club did not offer financial details, but Spanish media said that the agreement has a one-billion-euro ($1.06 billion) release clause, which is identical to those included in the contracts of several Barcelona teenagers.

Vinicius finished sixth in this year’s Ballon d’Or vote on Monday and was also awarded the Socrates prize, named after the Brazilian icon, for his humanitarian activities.
