Video Shows Mother Encouraging 7-Year-Old Daughter to Steal Purse at Georgia Restaurant

Georgia authorities arrested and charged a mom for allegedly encouraging her 7-year-old daughter to steal a pocketbook from a restaurant seat.

The March 2 event took place at The Juicy Crab, a popular restaurant in Newnan, Georgia, as reported by Fox 5 Atlanta. The suspect, 27-year-old Kenya Butler, and her three children were among those who went to the restaurant to dine.

According to Det. Taylor Dalton of the Newnan Police Department, Butler was recognized as the “offender in this case” after the “story aired in the media.” The 27-year-old suspect has since been charged with contributing to a minor’s delinquency and committing theft. Her 7-year-old daughter was ultimately cleared of any involvement.

Following the incident, investigators identified Butler as the woman seen in the security video. Butler is seen walking to an empty booth, followed by her daughter. She then says something to the youngster, and the 7-year-old snatches the pocketbook from the unoccupied seating area. The kid is seen exiting the restaurant with the purse, while her mother pursues.

According to Dalton, Butler did not reveal if she encouraged her daughter to steal the pocketbook, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. “While she did comment on some aspects of the case, that’s one part of it, she declined to comment on,” Dalton went on to say.

Butler and her group spent over $500 at the restaurant but did not pay. A man who authorities believe was meant to pay the group’s tab was also recorded on security footage.

Police are yet to identify that man.
