Oscar Alejandro, a popular Venezuelan YouTuber, was arrested in Caracas on Sunday for alleged links to “terrorist activities,” according to his family. Authorities have yet to comment on the matter.
“According to the information available so far, the arrest is linked to accusations of terrorist activities,” his family said in a press statement.
The US-based film creator, Oscar Alejandro Perez Martinez, was arrested at Caracas’ Simon Bolivar International Airport while on his way to Canaima, the national park home to Angel Falls, the world’s largest waterfall.
Alejandro has around two million YouTube subscribers and more than 580,000 Instagram followers. His movies record his travels to tourist destinations across the world and his interactions with people.
Since the beginning of the year, Venezuelan officials claim to have unearthed six purported terrorism and anti-government plots, resulting in over 40 arrests, including human rights activists.
