In response to a current blood shortage, the American Red Cross encourages everyone to donate blood whenever possible.
With the Fourth of July approaching, the group wants to guarantee that there is a sufficient supply of blood at hospitals around the country for people in need. There is concern about how long the existing supply will endure because to increased demand for contributions throughout the holiday season.
The Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood.
They are encouraging all blood types to make an appointment. Blood type B negative and O negative donors, as well as platelet donors, are currently in high demand.
Those who donate before June 30 will receive a $10 gift card to a business of their choice through email, according to the group. They will also be placed into a drawing for a backyard theater package. While supplies last, those who donate between July 1 and July 11 will get a Red Cross dry bag.
People can make an appointment to donate blood through the Blood Donor App, the American Red Cross website, the Blood Donor Skill feature on Alexa Echo or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Vitalant also has several blood donation sites throughout North Jersey.
