Two Killed, Six Wounded In Memphis Block Party Shooting

A shooting during a block party in the US city of Memphis on Saturday killed two people and injured six others, according to local authorities.

Two persons were found dead at the scene, while one of the six injured “remains in critical condition” at a local hospital, according to the Memphis Police Department on social media.

The incident took place during an unpermitted block party with 200 to 300 people near Orange Mound Park in southern Tennessee, according to the police.

Gun violence is widespread in the United States, a country with more firearms than people. Attempts to restrict gun rights are always met with strong political opposition.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a nongovernmental group, there have been 120 mass shootings in the United States this year. A mass shooting occurs when four or more persons are injured or killed.

Last year saw a total of 656 similar shootings.
