Turkey’s President Erdogan Becomes ill During a Live Broadcast

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan became unwell during a recent live broadcast. The live television interview was halted due to the health problem.

While it is believed Erdogan suffered a myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack, he returned shortly after to apologize and claim he had a stomach illness while campaigning for next month’s elections.

He has previously canceled campaign rallies set for Wednesday and Thursday due to health concerns, just weeks before the presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14. The incident has placed doubt on the President’s re-election bid, who has been in power since 2003.

After a cost-of-living crisis reduced Erdogan’s support, the elections pose the most significant electoral threat for contemporary Turkey’s longest-serving leader. According to polls, Erdogan may lose power after two decades in control.
