Trump Invited to Testify Before Grand Jury in Ex-Movie Star Stormy Daniels Case

Prosecutors in New York have called former US President Donald Trump to testify before a grand jury in the Stormy Daniels case, according to his lawyer.

The Manhattan district attorney has been investigating Mr. Trump for five years over alleged hush money payments made on his behalf to ex-adult movie star Stormy Daniels.

The fact that Trump has been summoned to a grand jury suggests that he may face prosecution.

Ms Daniels claims she received $130,000 prior to the 2016 election in exchange for silence about an alleged romance with Trump, but the former US president denies having sexual relations with her.

A prosecutor appoints a grand jury to evaluate if there is sufficient evidence to seek charges in a case.

A grand jury is typically held in private, and numerous former Trump aides are said to have testified in this case.

If prosecutors pursue the case, it could be the first time a former US president has faced criminal charges.

It is one of numerous cases in which Trump is now being investigated, but he has not been charged in any of them and denies wrongdoing in all of them.

They come as the 76-year-old prepares to run for President again.
