Top 5 Safest Countries to Travel in 2024: You Won’t Believe #1

According to a recent survey from International SOS, which offers tourists invaluable information on medical and travel security threats, Iceland has emerged as the safest place to visit in 2024.

In its annual Risk Map 2024, International SOS predicts which countries are the safest, which are the riskiest, and what issues visitors will face in the following year.

International SOS’s Risk Map looks at a variety of risk variables, including those pertaining to security, health, and mental health. Climate-related dangers were also included in the International SOS this year due to the rise in global temperatures. Countries are categorized into five hazard levels, ranging from minimal to high, based on their respective categories.

Numerous factors, including political violence, societal unrest, and violent and nonviolent crime, influence the International SOS security ratings. Other factors to take into account include labor relations, transportation infrastructure, the effectiveness of security and emergency services, and the probability of natural disasters.

The Scandinavian countries—which are renowned for their stability and capable leadership—continue to rank among the safest travel destinations, per the Risk Map. Iceland is ranked as the world’s safest travel destination. For a number of reasons, including low rates of violent crime, low levels of violence toward immigrants, and a lack of political violence, the country is ranked top.

Second on the list of countries with minimal security hazards for tourists is Luxembourg. Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland are the final three nations among the top five safest. The peaceful political environments, robust law enforcement, and low crime and violence rates of these top nations all contribute to their safety.

Other countries with very low security risk include Greenland, Slovenia, and Finland. Though not the lowest, the United States is categorized as having a low risk of security when traveling. It is the second of the five categories.

There have been many drops in the risk rating. Most notably, because of ongoing drops in a number of variables, El Salvador and a region of Nepal currently have lower risk ratings from International SOS.

In stark contrast to the stability of the safest countries, the highest risk countries are typified by political instability and feeble government authority. According to International SOS, South Sudan is the most dangerous country in the world, followed by Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and Somalia.
