Ike Turner Jr., the son of dead award-winning singers Tina Turner and Ike Turner, was detained on May 6 after police discovered crack cocaine in his possession during a traffic stop, according to PEOPLE. Ike Jr. allegedly attempted to consume the narcotics in his possession during his confrontation with the authorities.

Shortly after his arrest, the 64-year-old was charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence and received an 18-day jail sentence. Ike Jr.’s prison term occurred just 18 days before the death of his mother, Tina, who is widely acknowledged as the Queen of Rock & Roll, on May 24.

Officers in Alvin, Texas, pulled Ike Jr. stopped for a traffic violation and later discovered 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine in Ike Jr.’s hands when he attempted to consume the narcotics.

“He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him,” said Capt. Q.T. Arendell of the Alvin Police Department. According to the incident report, a passenger in the car with the 64-year-old was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines).

After his mother and father divorced, Ike Jr. began working as Tina’s sound engineer. However, he stated that his father, who was cruel to his mother, was opposed to him working with the singer, so the relationship ended.

“When my mother and father separated, he did not want me working with her — and he beat me in the head with a nickel-plated.45 pistol,” Ike Jr. stated. Ike Jr. also stated in a 2018 interview with the Daily Mail that the last time he spoke to his mother was over a decade ago.

In addition to the two accusations, the incident record appears to reveal Ike Jr. has an outstanding warrant for a different case, according to PEOPLE. According to jail records, the 64-year-old is being held at the Brazoria County Jail on a $70,000 bond.
