According to police, a decorated Thai para-athlete shot his bride and four other individuals at their wedding celebration before turning the gun on himself.
On Saturday, Chaturong Suksuk, 29, an ASEAN Para Games silver medalist, shot bride Kanchana Pachunthuek, her mother, and sister at their wedding in northeastern Thailand.
“They had an argument on private matters and Chaturong walked to his car and picked up a gun before shooting,” said Matichon Wongbaokul, a police officer from northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Chaturong, he claimed, shot his bride and four others before killing himself.
One of the victims was a visitor who was hit by a stray bullet.
He is a swimmer who won two silver medals in the ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia and Cambodia in 2022.
According to local media, he was a Thai army ranger who had lost his right leg while on border patrol.
Gun violence is widespread in Thailand, where guns are both legally and illegally available.
While mass shootings are uncommon, the attack comes just months after a mall attack that killed three people last month.
