Shakira, a Colombian musician, says she placed her career “on hold” for her ex-husband, Gerard Pique.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker discussed her marriage to the former Barcelona star and their subsequent breakup.
The singer stated that at some point during their marriage, she had to put her career “on hold” to be with her ex-husband “so he could play football.”
During the interview, Shakira stated that she “sacrificed a lot for love”.
“For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love,” she said.
In June 2022, the ex-footballer and Shakira announced their split in a joint statement.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” they wrote.
“We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
They married in 2011, but the marriage ended owing to charges of infertility.
Piqué and Shakira are Milan and Sasha’s parents.
They met on the set of her music video for ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),’ which was the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
