Selena Gomez Reveals Why She Can’t Get Pregnant

Selena Gomez, a US singer and actress, has announced that she would be unable to give birth owing to medical issues.

In a Monday cover story for Vanity Fair, Gomez discussed how her medical concerns have made it difficult for her to conceive healthily.

The actress stated that she still intends to become a mother one day, but that it may not happen in the way she had hoped.

“I haven’t ever said this. But I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she said.

“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone.”

Gomez, who seeks to start a family with boyfriend Benny Blanco in the future, said she is however open to surrogacy and adoption.

“I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she said.

“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

In June, Gomez stated her intention to adopt children if she remains single at age 35.

The 32-year-old singer has faced health issues in the past.

She previously disclosed her lupus diagnosis, an incurable autoimmune illness in which the body’s immune system overreacts and assaults normal tissue.

Gomez announced that she received a kidney transplant in 2017.
