Seif Ali Seif: 6 Companies Owned by Tanzanian Businessman You Should Know About

Tanzanian multimillionaire Seif Ali Seif’s company, Kagera Sugar, said on Friday that it will acquire the sugar assets of Tongaat Hulett, a distressed sugar producer and property conglomerate.

Super Group, a huge Tanzanian company managed by Seif Ali Seif and his family, owns Kagera Sugar. Despite keeping a low profile in Tanzania, Ali Seif is regarded as one of Africa‘s wealthiest persons. Super Group has a yearly revenue of more than $200 million and employs slightly over 1,000 people in Tanzania.

These are the six businesses in the group’s portfolio:

1. Kagera Sugar Limited

Kagera Sugar Limited (KSL) is a sugar producer based in Bukoba, Northwestern Tanzania. Super Group privatized the company in December 2001 after it had been under Tanzanian government ownership since its inception in 1982. KSL grows sugar cane, processes it, and distributes it, making it the country’s third-largest sugar producer. The estate covers 14,500 hectares, with much of the area irrigated by water from the Kagera River.

 

2. Superdoll Trailer Manufacture

Superdoll is a well-known maker of high-quality trailers and tankers in East, Central, and Southern Africa. The company manufactures trailers under license from Emil Doll of Germany and is Tanzania’s sole distributor of Michelin tires. Coca-Cola and Tanzania Breweries, a subsidiary of SAB Miller, are among its important customers.

 

3. Superstar Forwarders

Superstar Forwarders is an integrated logistics firm that specializes in cross-border transportation, freight forwarding, and clearing services. Founded in 1991 as a small general cargo haulage company, it has developed into a major transport logistics solution provider and one of the main haulers of containers, equipment, gasoline, and general cargo in East, Central, and Southern Africa. The company has a fleet of about 200 trucks.

 

4. Pipes Industries Co. Ltd. (PIL)

PIL manufactures GRP, HDPE, steel, and PVC pipes to meet the needs of the Agriculture, Industrial, Mining, Construction, and Water Supply sectors.

 

5. Superretread Tyres Co. Ltd.

Superretread Tyres Co. Ltd., founded in 1998, specializes in retreading worn tires for reintegration into full service. It has established a reputation as a world-class provider of retreaded tires, providing comprehensive tire services to Tanzanian transporters. Superretread is also a prominent provider of Fleet and Tyre Management Solutions in Tanzania for commercial vehicle, tire, and replacement product and service users.

 

6. Mtibwa Sugar Estate Ltd.

Mtibwa Sugar Estate, one of Tanzania’s largest sugar producers, is a sugar plantation encompassing 6,000 hectares in Morogoro, Tanzania’s eastern area. Cane is sourced from the company’s own fields as well as from local outgrowers in the nearby communities. Some sugar is exported to the EU via the Sugar Protocol, while the remainder is sold domestically.
