Alexis Nikole Nelson is a forager, queer actor, writer, producer, and social media marketing manager. Nelson, who was born on March 27, 1992, in Columbus, Ohio, sang in the children’s choir at her father’s Baptist church when she was three years old. She began playing classical piano at the age of five, and she sang in school choirs throughout her junior and senior years.

Nelson earned an honors diploma from Walnut Hills High School, a college preparatory school for grades 7-12 in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2010. She was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities while attending Walnut Hills, including the Senior Choir and the Women’s Ensemble.


She was also the captain of the varsity bowling team and played tennis. Nelson was a member of the Culinary Club, the Junior Classical League, and the Cappies chapter. At Walnut Hills High School, she was also a National Merit Semifinalist.

Nelson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theater in 2005 after studying environmental science and theater at Ohio State University. She was involved in many extracurricular activities at Ohio State University, including the Acapella Alliance, OSY Quidditch League, OSU Ukulele Club, and Hall Council. Nelson was also a member of Alpha Psi Omega, an American National Theatre Honor Society for college theatre participants.

Nelson worked part-time as an English teacher for EF Education First Teachers, a Shanghai-based education management firm, in 2016. She taught online English classes to students from elementary to advanced levels all over the world.

Nelson rose to internet celebrity in April 2020 after gaining over 600,000 followers and 10.3 million likes on her personal TikTok account, where she shares her extensive foraging knowledge. Her first foraging video went viral, garnering 40,000 views in an instant. On her TikTok account, she also shows off her knowledge of cooking with wild plants.

Nelson combines her background in environmental science with her theatrical abilities to create humorous and educational videos that both entertain and educate her followers on how to reduce their environmental impact. Nelson is a vegan, and her TikTok videos feature foraged vegan meals.

She credits her love of the outdoors to her parents and two sets of grandparents, who encouraged her to explore the outdoors from a young age. She first learned how to grow plants outside when she was five years old, while gardening with her mother on weekends. Nelson also attended an environmentally focused Montessori school as a child, which she credits with allowing her to delve deeper into her love of foraging and nature.

Nelson maintains a passion for music, particularly singing and ukulele playing, and incorporates these interests into her TikTok videos on occasion.
