Prince Harry Formally Confirms He Is Now A US Resident

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, has publicly acknowledged that he is now a US resident.

The recognition is claimed to highlight the prince’s growing estrangement from Britain, four years after he and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, walked away from royal duties.

A tour firm he owns filed paperwork this week telling British officials that he has relocated and is now “usually resident” in the United States.

Travalyst Ltd, a company created in 2020 to “promote global awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism,” filed the paperwork. Harry owns at least 75% of the company.

firms House, the government department in charge of overseeing the creation of UK firms, received the documents on Monday.

Prince Harry is King Charles III’s son and the fifth in line for the British throne. The filing further distinguishes Harry from his job as one of King Charles’ counsellors of state, members of the royal family who can be deputized to carry out the monarch’s duties if he is ill or away from the nation.

While Harry is still a state counselor, the crown warned parliament in 2022 that “in practice” only working members of the royal family will be called upon to fill in for the monarch.

In 2020, Harry and his American wife moved to a mansion in Montecito, a rich enclave in Southern California.

Since then, Harry has often criticized the royal family, including claims of unconscious racism made in a Netflix series and the prince’s autobiography, Spare.

The Duke of Sussex is also being scrutinized for his US residency. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think organization, has questioned the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to grant Harry a US visa following his drug-related admissions in Spare.

The foundation has requested that a judge order the government to divulge Harry’s immigration file since a history of drug usage would typically preclude an applicant from being given a visa.

The update on Harry’s residency status comes as Britain’s Prince William returned to public duties on Thursday for the first time since his wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, revealed she was undergoing preventive treatment for cancer.

William appeared upbeat as he chatted and assisted staff during a visit to a surplus food redistribution organization. One volunteer gave him “get well soon” cards for Kate and King Charles, who are both being treated for an unidentified kind of cancer.

Earlier this week, Harry lost his appeal against a high court decision to reduce his personal security while visiting the UK.
