Pharrell Williams, the Grammy-winning artist, has criticized celebrities for making public political endorsements ahead of the US presidential election on November 5.
Donald Trump, the Republican presidential contender, and Kamala Harris, the vice president and Democratic nominee, are both running for president.
Several American celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish, have publicly supported Harris.
Swift expressed her support for Harris, citing her advocacy for rights and concerns that require a strong champion.
The musician also stated that the Democratic contender is a “steady-handed and gifted leader”. She also encouraged voters to conduct comprehensive research before voting for their choices.
Trump has also garnered endorsements from celebrities such as billionaire Elon Musk and Blac Chyna.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pharrell professed indifference in politics and annoyance with celebrities who overtly support political politicians.
He stated that while he appreciates some celebrities for their beliefs, he believes not all of them should express their political views.
He stated that he believes such celebrity opinions are useless.
“I don’t do politics. In fact, I get annoyed sometimes when I see celebrities trying to tell you [who to vote for]. There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them,” he said.
“There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them. I’m one of them people [who says], ‘What the heck? Shut up. Nobody asked you’.”
Williams is a renowned singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer. He is known for contributing to various genres, including hip-hop, R&B, and pop.
