Patrick Dempsey, well known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ has been crowned the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for 2023 by People magazine.
In a recent feature, the journal revealed the 57-year-old actor as this year’s winner of the coveted title.
Dempsey succeeds Chris Evans, the star of Marvel’s Captain America franchise, who held the title last year.
While reacting to the honour, the actor said “It is nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive”.
Speaking on how his kids will respond, Dempsey told People that they are “just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I should not be”.
He added that his kids keep him feeling youthful.
Dempsey, who was born on January 13, 1966, achieved early success as an actor, appearing in films such as ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘Loverboy’ in the 1980s.
He is married to makeup artist and beauty line entrepreneur Jillian Fink, with whom he has three children.
He has won various honors, including the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Drama Actor in 2015.
Dempsey received a Disney Legend Award in 2022.
Other honorees of the title “sexiest man alive” include ‘Black Panther’ actor Michael B Jordan, singer John Legend, ‘Ant-guy’ star Paul Rudd, Idris Elba, Brad Pitt, and Harrison Ford.
