Over $50,000 has been raised for a 35-year-old New York mother who was severely hurt while fighting off an attempted kidnapping of her 18-year-old daughter. The incident happened in Adriana Alvarez’s Astoria apartment building in January 2024, as reported by the New York Post.
The GoFundMe set up to seek funds for Alvarez’s rent, hospital and house bills, reported that the would-be abduction approached the injured mother’s teen daughter from behind. The teen was claimed to be returning home from walking her dogs.
The event happened in their apartment hallway and was caught on a doorbell camera. “The assailant approached the young girl from behind and attempted to forcibly take her down the stairs,” the report adds.
“It was the yelling and cries for help that alerted Adriana to what was happening and, as the fearless mother she is, did not hesitate to fight back and defend her daughter from the would-be kidnapper.”
Alvarez successfully resisted her daughter’s abduction attempt. However, the subsequent assault left her with a shattered orbital bone, a fractured elbow, and a broken shoulder.
George Vassiliou, the culprit in the attempted abduction of Alvarez’s daughter, has been identified. According to the New York Post, he is charged with attempted kidnapping, assault, weapon possession, unlawful possession of noxious materials, harassment, and breaking a protective order.
According to police sources, Vassiliou, who is being held on $50,000 bond, parked a rented car outside the victims’ apartment, and a bag containing a rope, sleeping tablets, and tampons was found in the vehicle.
Donors praised Alvarez’s heroism in rescuing her daughter. “God bless Mama Bear and her daughter. “The criminal thug needs to be locked up forever,” a donor stated.
“I’m very amazed by your unwavering courage! I applaud you as a mommy! Another person also said.
“From one mother bear to another, God bless you and your family. I would fight till the end to safeguard my children. You’re my hero!! “Praying for a speedy recovery,” another donor stated.
