Nick Jonas Biography: Career, Songs, Movies and Marriage

A recording contract was offered to Nick Jonas when he was a teenager after he started his career in theater as a young child. Together with his brothers Kevin and Joe, Jonas founded the boy band the Jonas Brothers, which achieved considerable success while performing for the Disney Channel. Beyond the band, Jonas has established himself as a popular solo performer and developed his acting career into TV and film.

Early Life

On September 16, 1992, Nicholas Jerry Jonas was born in Dallas, Texas. Along with his older brothers and future bandmates Kevin and Joe Jonas, he was raised in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Growing up, the three boys all played music together, but it was Nick who made his name by singing in a hair salon while his mother had her hair trimmed.

With the Madison Square Garden production of A Christmas Carol, when he played Tiny Tim opposite Frank Langella, Jonas launched his singing career on Broadway at the tender age of 7. His Broadway career continues with roles in Annie Get Your Gun, a replacement role with Reba McEntire, Les Miserables, and Beauty and the Beast.

Jonas co-wrote a Christmas song with his father that Columbia Records heard while Jonas was performing on Broadway. As a solo artist, Jonas joined the label in 2004. His musically talented brothers Kevin and Joe collaborated with him on a few songs that eventually inspired the birth of the Jonas Brothers, a trio of brothers.

The Jonas Brothers’ Albums and Songs

‘It’s About Time,’ ‘Jonas Brothers’

It’s About Time, the one album Jonas and his brothers released with Columbia, was their only release before the record company let them go. The trio was signed by Disney’s Hollywood Records at the beginning of 2007, and by the end of the summer, their songs could be heard all over Radio Disney and their music videos could be viewed on the Disney Channel. The self-titled album by The Jonas Brothers, which was released in 2007, went double platinum and peaked at number five on the Billboard charts. “S.O.S.,” the album’s lead track, reached the top spot on iTunes.

‘A Little Bit Longer,’ ‘Lines, Vines and Trying Times’

With the release of their second album, A Little Bit Longer, the Jonas Brothers set a new standard for artists by being the first to simultaneously have three albums on the Billboard Top 10 (the first two plus Camp Rock, the soundtrack of the Disney movie). Lines, Vines and Trying Times, the group’s third album under Hollywood Records and fourth studio album overall, was released in 2009.

Band Breakup

By declaring their breakup in late October 2013, the Jonas Brothers put speculation to rest. This occurred three months after the pop group’s last Instagram post and a month after they postponed their fall tour.

The Jonas Brothers abruptly reactivated their Instagram account in January 2018. The decision was announced along with a picture of the brothers that was uploaded to Ryan Liestman’s Instagram page with the phrase, “Family reunion.” Although there was no instant confirmation from the Jonas camp, the sighting led to rumors that a reunion was planned.

Return With ‘Happiness Begins’

The Jonas Brothers made their triumphant comeback in March 2019 with the release of “Sucker,” the group’s first brand-new song in almost six years, and a music video that showed the now-adult lads with their various love partners. Both the song and their reunion album, Happiness Begins, had their No. 1 debuts. With “Only Human,” the band experienced additional chart success before embarking on their Happiness Begins Tour in August.

Solo Music

Seeking to branch out, Nick Jonas embarked on his first solo tour with his side project, The Administration, in 2010.

‘Last Year Was Complicated’

His 2014 self-titled solo album was favorably acclaimed, and the song “Jealous” went on to reach the Top 10. Last Year Was Complicated, a follow-up studio effort, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts in June 2016.

TV, Stage and Movie Roles

‘Camp Rock’

Jonas performed in various musicals while juggling his recording career and television acting jobs. He debuted by co-starring with Demi Lovato in the Disney Channel television movies Camp Rock (2008) and Camp Rock 2 (2010). The brief Matthew Perry comedy Mr. Sunshine (2011), ABC’s Last Man Standing (2011), and the Broadway drama Smash (2012) all had major cameo appearances by Jonas.

‘How to Succeed in Business,’ ‘Kingdom’

When Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss were replaced in the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012, Jonas, who had never lost his passion for the stage, took their places. He began a three-season tenure as a regular cast member on Kingdom in 2014, which required him to get in excellent shape for his part as a mixed martial arts fighter.

‘Jumanji,’ ‘Midway’

Later, Jonas appeared as the lead in the sensual thriller Careful What You Wish For (2015) and had a supporting part in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017). In 2019, Jonas collaborated on the voice acting for the animated movie UglyDolls with Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monáe, and Blake Shelton. After participating in the World War II epic Midway, he then returned to the adventure genre for Jumanji: The Next Level, capping off a hectic year.

‘The Voice’

It was revealed in October 2019 that Jonas would take Gwen Stefani’s place as a coach on the singing competition program The Voice. Alongside his UglyDolls co-stars Clarkson and Shelton, as well as fellow coach John Legend, he made his debut with the season 18 premiere in February 2020. Later, during the May 2020 season finale, Jonas debuted a brand-new solo song called “Until We Meet Again.”

Personal Life

Childhood diabetes diagnosis led Jonas to start the Change for the Children Foundation with the aid of his brothers. The foundation collaborates with a number of nonprofits in an effort to fund research and raise awareness of diabetes and other pediatric illnesses.

In May 2018, Jonas started dating actress Priyanka Chopra after previously being linked to other celebrities, such as fellow former Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus. Their romance developed quickly, and by the end of July, they were supposedly engaged. Beginning on December 1, 2018, the couple wed in a grandiose ceremony that lasted several days.
