NEO’s Campbell Receives First-ever Johnson Scholarship in Leadership and Public Service

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education awarded the inaugural 2024 Chancellor Glen D. Johnson Scholarship in Leadership and Public Service to Madilynn Campbell, a sophomore at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.

Campbell, of Big Cabin, Okla., is a pre-veterinary science student and member of the NEO Horse Judging team. Campbell and her family raise their own horses, and she actively supports an equestrian veterinarian in the region.

“The Chancellor Glen D. Johnson Scholarship in Leadership and Public Service will help financially pave the way for my long journey of becoming a veterinarian,” stated Campbell. “Time that would have been spent worrying about the financial burden of college can now be spent emphasizing my studies, serving as a leader in numerous clubs, and contributing to the community. I am quite delighted to have been picked for such a prestigious award.”

The Chancellor Glen D. Johnson Scholarship in Leadership and Public Service recognizes Chancellor Johnson’s dedication to expanding the number of Oklahoma college graduates to meet the state’s present and future labor demands in today’s knowledge-based global economy.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be an Oklahoma resident enrolled full-time at a public institution within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of nomination, have completed at least 30 hours of college coursework or credits, and be classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior for the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Each year, only two students from Oklahoma’s public two-year colleges are beneficiaries. Recipients are chosen based on their leadership experience, demonstrated interest in public service, community engagement and civic participation, a brief essay on the importance and value of public service, and a letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to the student’s leadership potential and dedication to public service.
