NBA legend Michael Jordan recently purchased the extremely rare, 300 mph Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster. After sharing a photo on social media showing Jordan posing close to what might be his new automobile, Hennessey Performance, the company that created the ultimate vehicle, made this information public.
“Today was a special day,” the post read. “Such an honor to build a special Venom F5 for a special friend.”
The Mailonline reports that Jordan owns one of the world’s 30 Venom F5s, which reportedly has an enormous 1,600 horsepower and reportedly cost $ 5 million.
Jordan has maintained a keen interest in cars; he recently purchased a NASCAR team with Denny Hamlin, as a minority partner.
“Growing up in North Carolina, my parents would take my brothers, sisters, and me to races, and I’ve been a NASCAR fan my whole life,” Jordan said in a news release. “The opportunity to own my own racing team in partnership with my friend, Denny Hamlin, and to have Bubba Wallace driving for us, is very exciting for me.”
He continued, “Historically, NASCAR has struggled with diversity and there have been few Black owners. The timing seemed perfect as NASCAR is evolving and embracing social change more and more.
“In addition to the recent commitment and donations I have made to combat systemic racism, I see this as a chance to educate a new audience and open more opportunities for Black people in racing.”
With an estimated net worth of $2 billion, Jordan is one of the wealthiest black persons in the world, according to Forbes. A significant portion of his income comes from his more than 36-year relationship with Nike. He made $1.3 billion from the transaction alone.
The basketball great also has other sources of income, including a small share in DraftKings and ownership of the Charlotte Hornets, a basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
