Massachusetts Woman Won $1 Million in Lottery After Buying Ticket with Morning Coffee

Maria Acevedo Valdez, a native of Massachusetts, unexpectedly won $1 million from her regular cup of coffee. According to a press release from the Massachusetts State Lottery, Valdez stopped at an Andover petrol station for a cup of coffee to start her day and then decided to toss in a lottery ticket when checking out.

Valdez gambled $20 at the Mobil station to play the “$10,000,000 Premier Cash” quick ticket game offered by the Massachusetts State Lottery. Her wager paid off as she was able to win a million dollars.

As soon as Valdez learned she had won, she turned in her ticket and decided to take her prize as a lump sum payment of $650,000 (before taxes).

She stated in the announcement that she is “thankful and blessed” and that she plans to utilize the prize money to help her family.

Furthermore, the Mobil where Valdez purchased her ticket would receive a bonus of $10,000 for facilitating the sale.

Playing the game costs $20 per ticket, and according to MassLive, as of December 18, there were six $1 million jackpots up for grabs.

Another citizen of Massachusetts won a $25 million lottery prize earlier this month. After winning the $50 instant game “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” from the Massachusetts State Lottery, Desiree Fortini-Craft did not immediately claim her $25 million reward.

She would have like to take a trip to Aruba first. However, it was before she flew off and scrawled her winning ticket, hiding it somewhere safe.
