Looking for intriguing places to visit this year? National Geographic‘s annual Best of the World 2024 list includes unique experiences like as shark diving on Australia’s Coral Coast and whitewater rafting in West Virginia.

The list, which was shared on Tuesday, includes both well-known and lesser-known destinations. They span from Paris and Niagara Falls to Georgia’s Caucasus Mountains and archeological sites on Menorca, a Spanish island.

Unlike past years, National Geographic focuses on must-do activities at each trip rather than simply listing locations. In a departure from previous editions, the journal now includes rankings to help readers prioritize their bucket lists.

“I’m so excited about this,” said National Geographic Editor in Chief Nathan Lump during an exclusive peek last week in New York. “We’ve expanded it to be larger than ever before. And we really think that is a very, really terrific approach to offer our tourists, who are constantly looking for new ideas.”

Lump stated that the list would be issued on Tuesday to coincide with National Vacation Day, which occurs on the final Tuesday of January each year.

Every year, millions of vacation days go unused, and Lump hopes that this year’s list will motivate readers to step outside of their comfort zone and travel the world.

National Geographic explorers, photographers, and editors have compiled the best 20 travel experiences. It is “a celebration” of “travel’s power to transform us and our connections with one another,” according to the magazine.
