Raven Jemison, an experienced sports executive, has been hired as president of the Kansas City Current, a team co-owned by Patrick Mahomes. She will be in charge of all business operations as the team prepares for its maiden season at CPKC Stadium.
Jemison succeeds the team’s founding president, Allison Howard, and becomes the first Black person to occupy the role. In an official statement, Jemison expressed his excitement to work with Angie, Chris, and the Kansas City team. “They have a vision and a desire to make this the best women’s football team in the world, and they are willing to do everything it takes to achieve that goal. I am really enthusiastic about the opportunity to use my skills to help improve this club at a time when both it and the league are on the rise.”
She previously served as the Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association. Her three-year career with the Bucks was deemed a success due to her accomplishments both on and off the court.
She led the Bucks to division titles every year of her tenure, as well as the NBA Championship in 2021. She also assisted the team in achieving remarkable growth in all key sectors off the court, including data analytics and digital marketing, according to a statement from Kansas City Current.
Meanwhile, her sports career began in the NHL as a Client Services Manager for the Florida Panthers. She later worked for the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB) and the San Francisco 49ers (NFL) before joining the NBA’s Team Marketing & Business Operations division.
When she first joined the NBA, she quickly established herself as an important member of the league. She used her abilities, knowledge, and experience to help grow the entire league while also offering vital insight to specific clubs in the NBA, WNBA, and G-League, according to a statement from Kansas City. She concentrated more on the teams’ business operations, including as tickets, partnership sales, and marketing.
Today, she serves as Team President of Kansas City Current, which was created in December 2020. The team is currently co-owned by Angie Long, Chris Long, Brittany Mahomes, and Patrick Mahomes. The team plays in the National Women’s Soccer League.
