Raven Jeffress, 22, was preparing to graduate from Georgia State University when she was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident by a wrong-way driver. According to WSB-TV, the incident occurred several weeks before she was scheduled to walk the stage.
Jeffress’ mother, Pamela Elder Mobley, described her daughter as an amazing person who was also a cheerleader and a mental health advocate. “A piece of me was taken, a piece of my family was taken,” Mobley said, adding that her daughter “was going to go to grad school and ultimately become a psychologist.”
Police said the fatal March 25 incident occurred after a driver used a wrong way before hitting Jeffress head-on. In the wake of the crash, witnesses said two men exited the vehicle and fled the scene.
“The thought of her having to go through this by herself and them just leaving her like that, it hurt really bad,” Mobley said. The grieving mother also said doctors informed them the victim had no brain activity after she was taken to the hospital. She died after three days.
“This was avoidable,” said Mobley. Though police have managed to track down the owner of the car, they are yet to locate the individual who was driving the vehicle on the day of the fatal crash.
The car in question was also uninsured.
