Derrick Rose, a Chicago native and former Chicago Bulls great, married his longtime boyfriend on Thursday in a tiny ceremony in California, sources confirmed to NBC Sports Chicago.
Rose married Alaina Anderson, whom he proposed to on the court of Madison Square Garden in October 2021, after becoming the NBA’s youngest most valuable player concluding the 2010-11 season with the Bulls. The pair is notoriously quiet, but they have been linked publicly since 2016 and have two children together.
According to some sources, the pair previously married in a private ceremony in February 2018, therefore it’s unclear whether this was simply a ceremonial commemoration of that day or a newly legal binding marriage.
Rose made waves in July 2022 when he photographed his former Bulls colleague and close buddy Joakim Noah’s wedding in Brazil. Noah took part in the wedding and attended the little ceremony on Thursday.

Rose, 34, joined the Memphis Grizzlies in the summer. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft is entering his 16th NBA season and has gained leaguewide admiration for persevering despite numerous knee problems.
He became lyrical when discussing his basketball mortality when he visited the United Center last season, where he frequently earns standing ovations as a visiting player.
“Who knows how many years I’m going to continue to play?” he said in December 2022. “It’s a lot of things I’m looking forward to doing. But right now, I’m still invested in basketball. So that’s where I’m giving my everything.
“I got pictures from (my son, P.J.) and Kobe (Bryant) here, everything. The book that we’re going to look back at and all the pictures, it’s going to be something to really cry about. We maxed out in every area while we were here. Basketball, talking to the fans. We were showing professionalism when we were here with that group.”
