Siva Moodley, a South African pastor, was buried 579 days after he died.
Moodley, the 53-year-old founder of The Miracle Centre in Johannesburg’s northwestern outskirts, died on August 15, 2021, after falling unwell.
“No Christian should die from sickness,” the late preacher used to preach.
On Thursday, March 16, 2023, a funeral was held in Gauteng.
Moodley’s body had been preserved in a Johannesburg mortuary since his death because his family hoped he might resurrect, according to IOL.
According to IOL, following his death, family and church members would attend the funeral home to pray for his resurrection.
At the time, funeral house manager Martin du Toit applied to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for permission to bury or cremate Moodley. The subject, however, had not yet been scheduled for a hearing.
After Moodley’s death, church services have continued as usual, led by his wife, Jessie, son, David, and daughter, Kathryn Jade. The services are also broadcast live on social media.
The church has allegedly not openly acknowledged his death on social media or informed the congregation of his whereabouts. His social media accounts, notably Facebook and Twitter, are operational and messages are posted every day as if they are from him.
Staff from Miracle Centre declined to speak to the media. They said they had a policy in place which barred them from doing so.
