Ex-Cherokee County Insurance Agent Wanted for Stealing $3,500 from Customer

A Cherokee County man is on the run after being accused of insurance fraud.

Authorities are looking for 42-year-old Michael Preston of Woodstock, who is accused of insurance fraud and forgery, according to Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.

According to the investigation, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received information of suspected fraud conducted by a local insurance agent in November 2021.

After his office took over the case, officials discovered Preston was a State Farm insurance representative who accepted a $3,500 check from a consumer to settle an insurance premium payment.

According to the investigation, Preston deposited the check in his personal bank account rather than using it for its designated purpose.

Preston has been fired from State Farm as a result of the event.

On November 15, warrants were issued against Preston in Cherokee County.
